  • Breaking up with Alexa

Lately, privacy has become a more present concern for me and my family. It’s really a pick-your-poison situation, blame it on the constant data leaks, or sketchy data collection practices, or the growing threat of authoritarianism. Suffice it to say that at this point, I don’t really trust Google or Amazon to handle recordings of my day-to-day life.

  • Java goes to Kubernetes

Last year I had the opportunity to work on migrating Java microservices from EC2 to Kubernetes. It was mostly a smooth process thanks to the work that the OfferUp DevOps team had put in. The application deployment process that they created consolidated application properties, runtime, and ingress configuration. It was a big improvement over the legacy EC2 approach. Everything was great, except for performance. Various teams were reporting sporadic latency spikes and challenges with right-sizing.

  • Blight: Wireless LED Box

This project started as a custom-built LED light box. The brainchild of John Baldwin, the idea was simple: make a handheld cube with LEDs, and change the lights based on the movement of the box. By the end, we had a platform that would allow us to make multiple LED boxes act in unison.

  • Hackathon Winner: Wordio

After moving to Tallahassee in 2012, I started working at a small startup that was part of an incubator program at FSU. Later that year, a hackathon event was announced for October, and several students from the incubator wanted to participate.

  • Overhead Projection Mapping for Traverse Stage

Inspired by the work with Organic projection mapping software, I wanted to make something like these interactive projection installations from LUMOplay.

  • Projection Mapping using Organic

Back in 2010, I was working at Mater Academy High School alongside John Baldwin, my mentor and long time friend. At the time, we wanted to leverage spare projectors in theater. The goal was to build something that could help us place images or videos on the stage, animating their movement, and recording the layout for reuse during performances.
